Canine Visits Secondary School

Click here to learn about our visit from the Interquest Detection Canines of North Minnesota.

Thanks to Interquest Detection Canines of North Minnesota for sharing valuable information with our learners about how we utilize drug dogs to keep our school safe. They are the nation’s oldest and largest contraband detection and drug dog service provider, celebrating over a quarter of a century of excellence. They have a proven track record in

  • ensuring safety and security in schools.
  • minimizing the presence of illegal drugs, alcohol, gunpowder based items and weapons, and abused medications.
  • working with staff to maximize our deterrence program.

We learned how the dogs are trained, what the dogs are trained to find, and why the dogs are utilized by Albany Area Middle School and High School. These dogs visit our campus three times each year to keep our schools free of unwanted chemicals.

Students create jeopardy game boards

Advanced Math students create jeopardy games to help prepare themselves and classmates for the MCA tests.

In 7th grade math class this last week, Mr. Fragodt's advanced math students created MCA Jeopardy Boards to prepare for the upcoming MCA tests. Students were allowed to choose the categories, topics, and questions, as well as set up how their board would look. Mr. Fragodt did not want to put too many restrictions on the boards, as 7th grade students have very creative and unique design ideas. The students were also instructed to create an answer key, requiring them to answer all of the questions they created for extra practice.

Once these boards were completed, the entire 7th grade got to benefit from the students' hard work. All classes the following day got to play jeopardy using one of their classmates' creations. Although some of the questions were difficult and challenging to complete, students worked hard and enjoyed playing jeopardy. The students understand that the MCA tests will be difficult, but that it is okay to work through these tough questions. With the MCA tests coming up, Mr. Fragodt reminded students that the best thing they can do is to get a good night sleep, have a good breakfast, and to do your best. Hopefully students can do those few things and we are all confident they will succeed.
