What is a softphone? We have worked with Albany Tel to set up a softphone option for all district staff with a desk phone. A softphone is software installed on your computer that allows you to make and receive calls from your computer. You could have your computer at home or anywhere with an internet connection to use your softphone. This is a great tool if you need to make calls and receive calls when working offsite. Example: If you call my desk phone, it will ring my desk phone and computer at the same time. When I make a call from my computer, it shows the same caller ID as if I called from my desk phone.
If you have a MacBook, please install the LinPhone from the self-service page on your MacBook. If you do not know how to access the self-service page, please watch this video. If your computer has not been moved over to the mobile device management system, please open a help desk ticket and we can move your computer to the mobile device management system.
After you have installed LinPhone you will need to open a ticket with the help desk requesting your account to be reconfigured to allow Softphones. After your account is reconfigured, the tech team will email you a password that will be used to sign into the Softphone.
