Elementary
We believe social and emotional wellness is just as important as academic success. When students feel safe and cared for, they are more likely to achieve academic success at school. We provide a variety of supports to students in the areas of social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Some of these supports include self-regulation, management of emotions, and peer relationships. Students can be referred to the school social workers through universal social/emotional screening done by classroom teachers as well as staff and family concerns.
Middle School
The counseling department at Albany Area Middle School provides support and services to students through personal/social, academic, and career domains. Student social and emotional wellness is a top priority at the middle school. The licensed school counselor goes into the 6-8 classrooms and teaches social emotional lessons, such as Top 20, to help promote social and emotional learning. Some of the services we provide at the middle school counseling department include social skills, coping/calming skills, peer connections, emotional regulation skills, and positive conflict resolution. Students may be referred to the middle school counselor for a variety of reasons. Helping all students with their personal/social, academic, and career needs is our goal in the counseling department.
High School
The purpose of the Albany High School Counseling Department is to provide a comprehensive and developmental program that offers services, resources, and activities that will facilitate academic, personal/social, and career development of all students.
