Kindergarten has been diving into science exploration this month. We have been exploring different science materials and their reactions. We have explored citric acid and vinegar to make fizzy paintings, vinegar and baking soda to make volcanoes, and combined snow and food coloring. This has allowed the kids to explore and make their own observations and connections.
On March 24, author Margi Preus presented virtually to our fifth grade students. Margi is the author of the Newbery Honor book Heart of a Samurai and other books for young readers, including the Minnesota award-winning book West of the Moon. She talked about how she began writing in kindergarten. She told us how she wrote skits for her school when she was younger. She said it took roughly three years to write her first novel (Heart of a Samurai), and now it takes about 18 months to write a novel. She spends many hours doing research on the topics of her books. She also writes picture books. Her upcoming picture book is Lily Leads the Way, a book about a small boat crossing under the lift bridge in Duluth. She is coming out with a new novel this September and we were the first group to see a preview! Many students commented about how much they enjoyed the presentation!
On December 10, our PTA sponsored our PAWSitive Pride celebration. Students made ornaments, frosted cookies and played bingo.
